Castrol loves Deuce

During the Confederations Cup, we played around with Castrol rankings for the US team.  (They infamously suggested that Onyewu was among the worst defenders in the tournament.)

But Castrol also ranks players playing in the top five leagues.  And the rankings are liking Clint Dempsey, who has climbed 74 places in the rankings.  As fellow commentator wjmooner pointed out to me today, Clint is the highest-ranked midfielder in the Premier League that (a) doesn’t play for Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea or ManU and (b) not named Cahill.

The rankings have not been as kind to Tim Howard, who has fallen more than 70 places and is now ranked behind Brad Friedel.  (See here.)

For those interested in seeing how Castrol ranks all the Americans in the top five leagues, here’s the list.
