Your Requests Answered

Two regular commentors on the site asked about getting into more specifics about the shots that the U.S. team is taking:  both location of shots and when they happened (e.g., 1st half, 2nd half).  Over the past couple days, I’ve worked to put together a spreadsheet that addresses those requests:  allowing us to examine stats about shots by location, player, match, half, result, and even whether it was a one touch shot or a crossed header.

To give you a sample of the new data, we’ve added a new tab to the page:  Player Shots.  While there’s still a little work to be done (rewatching the Confederations Cup to identify who took what shots), you can now see most of the American players’ stats for shots:  number taken, where on the field, whether they were goals, blocked by defenders, saved by the keeper, or wide (and how wide).

There is much more to come from this data set and I should be able to expand it back through 2008, but for now check out the new tab.
