Confederations Cup Disciplinary History

Three straight reds in four matches got us wondering whether there was any precedence whatsoever for this at the Confederations Cup.

Turns out the U.S. is the only team in Confederations Cup history to receive three straight red cards.  The title of most red cards goes to 1999 Egypt (2 YAC and 2 Straight Reds):  the only other team in Confederations Cup history to finish with more than one straight red card.

The American midfield is the most harshly penalized position in Confederations Cup history:  no teammates at the same position had ever received straight reds in the tournament before Clark, Kljestan, and Bradley.

The two Egyptian players who received straight reds were: Abdel Sabry (Forward) and Samir Ibrahim (Defender).  Both were sent off in the same match against Saudia Arabia.

Here’s a tournament-by-tournament recap of disciplinary history (top 2 teams for each category).
