Busacca Can Give Yellow Cards After All

Brazil got mighty lucky to have Busacca as referee for their semifinal match.  Any time you have a referee who issues your opponent a straight red card without even seeing the foul (the apparent defense for Kljestan’s nonsensical card was that the fourth official claimed it was a red), you have to store that guy in your “It’d be nice to have him again” file.

Busacca’s red-card-free game was depressing.  He clearly can officiate an important game fairly.  And he can clearly distinguish between yellow-card fouls and red-card fouls.  So, it just adds more fuel to the fire.  Especially when you see the yellow-carded fouls:  can you really claim that any of them were less severe than the ones Americans got ejected for committing?

And with this, we’re done with our referee questioning (at least until Sunday’s final).  Now, it is time to reconsider our first match against Brazil as we try and predict what the American team will bring to the table that it didn’t last time.
