The adidas Golden Shoe Poll

On the front page of FIFA.com is a poll for which of six players the fans expect will win the adidas Golden Shoe for the Confederations Cup.  There’s actually an American in the poll.  Any guesses?  The answer and random notes after the break.

Charlie Davies is the American player named in the company of Kaka (BRA), Louis Fabiano (BRA), Bernard Parker (RSA), Fernando Torres (ESP), and David Villa (ESP).

FIFA lets you not only see the overall results of the poll, but also to see the current results organized by the voters’ language of choice: English, Spanish, French, German, and Arabic.

Overall, the results are: Kaka (by a mile –13%), Torres, Villa, Fabiano, Davies, Parker

In German, the results are: Torres, Kaka, Villa, Fabiano, Parker, Davies

In English, the results are: Kaka, Torres, Villa, Fabiano, Davies, Parker

In French, the results are: Kaka, Villa, Torres, Fabiano, Davies, Parker

In Spanish, the results are: Villa, Kaka, Torres, Fabiano, Davies, Parker

In Arabic, the results are: Kaka, Villa, Torres, Fabiano, Parker, Davies

Here’s some quick facts about these results:

  • Davies has scored 1 goal (fewest among the named players) and his 106 minutes is less than half of those played by the other players named.
  • Villa, Torres, and Fabiano each have scored three goals.  Kaka (the fans’ leader) has scored only two (one on the penalty kick to beat Egypt).  None of the other players has a penalty kick goal.
  • None of the players named has played the full 270 minutes:  Parker has 255 to lead the group.
  • Torres is ahead of teammate Villa in German and English, but behind in Spanish, French and Arabic.
