Group Stage Superlatives

A couple random statistics from FIFA.com to throw out, just for fun.

Tournament Slowpoke:  Brad Guzan whose top speed as recorded by FIFA was 16.44 km/hr.  Runner up was Tim Howard with a top speed of 18.04.  Brad and Tim were the only two players in the tournament whose top speed did not exceed 20 km/hr.  Michael Bradley was the fastest American at 30.78 (8th overall).  Honorable mention goes Oguchi Onyewu whose top speed of 30.68 is impressive for the team’s center back.

Marathon Man:  Michael Bradley (dubbed “Busy Bradley” by FIFA.com) not only travelled further than any other player during the US – Egypt match (12.714 km) but also covered the most distance of any player in the group stages (36.426 km).  Bradley ran roughly 22.6 miles in three matches and should easily complete his marathon (26.3 miles) against Spain.  Runner up is Clint Dempsey (34.855 km) and honorable mention goes to third-place finisher Landon Donovan (34.263).
